Electric Highway coming to WA?

The University of Western Australia has initiated what they call  “the Renewable Energy Vehicle Project” (the Rev Project).

One of the proposals within this project is an electric highway. This consists of a series of charging stations between Perth and Margaret River thus opening up the popular holiday destinations “down South”. These charging stations will be mainly powered by solar or other “green” energies.

At the moment electric vehicles (EVs) are unable to travel far from the city because of the lack of charging stations. The electric highway could be a great way of promoting electric vehicles. The biggest benefit is undoubtedly the fact that it will encourage people to consider sustainability, however, this project would also provide employment opportunities.

There is a very small percentage of EV’s on the Australian roads and the likelihood is that this number will have to increase before the electric highway becomes a reality.
